Getting to see him learn and grow, watching him thrive and come to conclusions about things he’s doing. Each diaper, long night, tiring morning all reminds me that he’s in my life and I couldn’t be happier to have him. His smile is so delightful it could solve the energy crisis, he makes every day worth living and I am so happy to call him my son.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
Because he deserves it. He’s so pure, so happy, so deserving of love. If I could make a full time job out of holding him I would. He’ll never want, need, or worry that I’m not here to take care of him. There’s a song by Darius Rucker called “This” that reminds me that everything in my life has lead here, to this moment, with my wife and my boy. I can’t imagine it going any differently, and I’m the luckiest person in the world to get the chance to be his father.
How would you use the $25,000?
I’m just about finished putting in a bathroom I started before he was born, and now my goal is to renovate my basement so he and his friends have somewhere to hang out some day that isn’t on the main floor, and my wife and I really want to take him on some vacations as he grows older. I’d love to save up to take him to his first bears game some day and get him seats my parents never could afford for me.
