Seeing the smile on my son’s face when he wakes up in the morning and sees me for the first time that day. There’s nothing better.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
Because every child deserves to feel safe, loved, and known by their dad. Raising a boy, I want to show my son that he never has to choose between being strong and sensitive, firm and kind, a fighter and a forgiver. I’m still learning some of those lessons myself, and fatherhood has given me the chance to redeem parts of my own story along the way. I want my son to grow up with one truth planted deep inside him: he is loved, he belongs, and he is enough just as he is.
How would you use the $25,000?
My son and I currently share a one-bedroom apartment in San Francisco, and $25,000 would help me give him something increasingly precious as he gets older: a room of his own. A place for his books, LEGO creations, friends, and all the growing up ahead of him. After 20 years of building a life here as an immigrant, that would mean the world to me. And yes, I’m sure at least one LEGO set would make the budget.
