Seeing pieces of myself in my kids, while watching them become completely their own people. It's the little things, teaching them something new, making them laugh, watching their confidence grow, or hearing them tell a story they'll remember forever. Knowing that I get to help shape the people they're becoming, and that they know Dad will always be in their corner, is something no accomplishment could ever replace.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
Because they only get one childhood, and I only get one chance to be their dad through it. Someday they won't need me to fix everything, teach them how to do something, or tuck them in at night. I want to make the years I have with them count. More than anything, I want them to grow up knowing they were loved, supported, challenged, and that their dad always showed up for them.
How would you use the $25,000?
My daughter(11) and son(9), and I'd use the $25k to give them an adventure they'll talk about long after they're grown. We'd hitch up our camper in Pennsylvania and spend two weeks crossing America to Disneyland in California, camping beneath the stars at national parks along the way, seeing places they've only seen in pictures, and spending four magical days at Disney before taking another adventure home. The money would eventually be gone, but those memories would belong to our family forever.
