Watching my children become themselves. With Valentina, I’ve learned that being a dad isn’t about creating the childhood I imagined for her; it’s about paying attention to the person she’s becoming and meeting her there. Now, as we await Silvano, I get to discover a whole new little person. The greatest reward is knowing they’ll never be exactly who I expect—and getting a front-row seat while they show me who they are.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
Because time is the one thing I can’t build, fix, replace, or buy more of. I became a dad later in life, and that gives me a powerful sense of perspective: childhood is incredibly short. I want my children to grow up remembering that Papa showed up—he listened, played, taught, laughed, made mistakes, apologized, and loved them completely. I can’t give them a perfect dad. But every day, I can give them one who is fully there.
How would you use the $25,000?
With a new baby arriving, $25,000 wouldn’t become a new toy for Dad. It would become time and opportunity for our family—some toward the kids’ futures, some toward experiences we can share, and some toward making our home and lives a little more secure. I’ve learned that the best thing money can buy isn’t more stuff. It’s the freedom to spend a little less time worrying and a lot more time being Papa.
