I had strong male role models growing up, but there is no replacement for a present, engaged father. Coming home each day to my boys running to greet me with smiles, laughs and hugs reminds me that I’m giving them something I didn’t have. No matter how hard or stressful the day, walking through that door makes it all worth it. Being a father is the most challenging and rewarding thing I’ve ever done, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I grew up without a father, and I promised myself my boys would never know that absence. I want to raise kind, caring men who are strong both physically and emotionally. I teach them that their feelings are valid, strength and vulnerability can coexist, and it’s okay to express what they feel. I worked hard to become the man I am, often figuring things out on my own. I want to give my boys the guidance and head start I wish I’d had.
How would you use the $25,000?
I would use the $25,000 to reduce our debt and take a meaningful step toward a permanent home for our family. My dream is to build a home my boys will always know they can come back to, no matter where life takes them. A place where they can bring their own families, where cousins grow up together, holidays are celebrated and memories are made. More than a house, I want to create a forever home that brings our family together for generations.
