Seeing my kids make the correct and smart decisions while also being responsible and polite to others is what makes me feel accomplished as a dad. It is important to me that that are confident in themselves and trust their instincts. It is rewarding to also see them excel in sports, band, and all their other activities, but who they are as a whole and how they grow as a person and human in our diverse culture is the most important and rewarding part of being a dad.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I feel that as a dad it’s my job to be the best dad possible. It’s my job to set standards for them to not only follow but in many cases what they should expect in others who are close to them. I need to show them how to deal with all the things that life throws at them in a positive, tactful, and smart way. Laying this foundation for this is key to their success in life, which is my goal and #1 priority behind them being safe.
How would you use the $25,000?
Our house has been a challenge since retiring from the military. We have had to drain our savings to make our deck safe, install a working septic system, battled a flooded basement replacing plumbing/flooring/toilets, lived through tornadoes and major storms resulting in a new roof and siding and more. While I am handy for most things, I cannot do major construction. Aside from a family vacation ($2-5K), we would either expand our garage, fix up a master bath, or get a new shed and mower.
