The most rewarding part of being a dad is helping my kids discover who they are. My 16-year-old loves to read, so when she needed bookshelves, we built them together and she picked the stain. When my 8-year-old wanted to try basketball, I signed up to coach. My son has brain cancer and physical disabilities, but discovered a love for 3D printing, so I learned right alongside him. I love helping them chase their own interests and watching them become independent, confident little humans.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I strive to be the best dad I can be because my kids deserve it. I want them to grow up knowing they’ll always have someone in their corner. AC went out? Call Dad. Car leaking oil? Call Dad. Need help with Excel? Heck, call Dad. I want to be the jack-of-all-trades they can always lean on. That doesn’t mean doing everything for them, though. Sometimes being Dad means rolling up my sleeves, standing beside them, and figuring it out together.
How would you use the $25,000?
I’d use the $25,000 toward a larger, more reliable vehicle for my family. Right now, I’m keeping our 2010 sedan on the road one repair at a time, but with a big family it was already a tight squeeze. Now my son needs a wheelchair, and space is even tighter. A larger vehicle would mean room for all of us, room for his wheelchair, and a little less worrying about whether Dad can keep the family car running.
