The most rewarding part of being an adoptive dad is watching my boys discover that they are safe, loved, capable and part of a forever family. We’ve made it our mission to replace painful memories with experiences they’ll carry for a lifetime— from experiencing new cultures around the world to woodworking, volunteering, telling jokes around a campfire and simply being together. Seeing them grow in confidence and realizing they can accomplish anything is the greatest reward I could ever receive.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I strive to be the best dad I can be because I cannot change the way my boys’ stories began, but I can help them believe in everything their stories can become. I want them to know that adversity does not define them, that they are deeply loved, and that they are capable of extraordinary things. My greatest responsibility is to give them a childhood filled with the love, safety, adventure and memories every child deserves.
How would you use the $25,000?
I would invest in something that keeps giving long after the money is gone: opportunity. I’d use it to help purchase land so my boys can unplug from our digital world, learn life skills, reconnect with nature, challenge themselves and build memories as a family. I’d also donate $$ to purchase equipment for participants of The Mayfly Project. One part would help my children grow; the other would help current foster children discover that they, too, deserve adventure, belonging and hope.
