To be completely honest, and this sounds obvious, but I love seeing them laugh, take on adventures and challenges in daily life like champs, and growing into kids who stand up for other kids. I have learned a lot from them myself about not taking life too seriously, and when I enjoy life with my wife and them, they tend to enjoy life. Every week poses new challenges, and hitting those head on with my family and kids gives me purpose to be the best dad, and most present dad possible.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I had a great childhood with a mom who grew up in an abusive household and struggled with drugs and alcohol, and a dad who loved her despite all of that. They are still together today solely by the mercy of God, and they chose to love each other and raise kids the best they could. I want to choose to be the best dad week in and week out to give my kids what my parents gave me, and so they can hopefully see how God can turn struggles into blessings.
How would you use the $25,000?
Paying off a car loan would free up financial space. My wife’s car is older so I know she would love a newer van! That’s the boring part, she would also love to take the kids (in that newer van) to beach! Or upgrade some things around the house! She would be much better at deciding where to spend certain money and how much we would actually save for a rainy day! Oh, also definitely a fort for the backyard. That would probably be one of the first purchases! The kids would love that.
