Raising good humans is incredibly hard, and sometimes the rewards can be difficult to see. But then you get a glimpse that it’s all paying off: they show kindness without being asked, have empathy for someone who is hurting, treat others with respect, or succeed at something they worked hard for. Those small moments are the reward. They remind me that through all the challenges what matters most is the love, the lessons, and showing up as their Dad. This allows them to go make a difference!
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I never had a father who truly showed up for me, and I always knew I wanted something different for my children. I strive to be the best dad I can be because I want to break that cycle and give my kids what I never had: a dad who is present, dependable, loving, and always in their corner. I can’t change what I missed growing up, but I can make sure my twins grow up knowing their dad invested in them every day with unconditional love, kindness, accountability, and consistency and presence.
How would you use the $25,000?
I have been a teacher my whole career, so I would use the money to help pay for my children’s education so they can continue attending a Middle School where they feel supported, accepted, and valued for who they are. I want them to remain in a community that gives them the freedom to make mistakes, learn from them, and grow into their best selves. Being able to provide that sense of belonging, stability, and opportunity for them means everything to me.
