My son is profoundly level 3 non verbal autistic. Everyday is a struggle in one way of the other. I have to work 100x harder than any average parent, but when he finally makes a leap forward, it feels 100x better (I presume). I have not had an easy life, being a combat veteran, raising my son is still the hardest thing. But the most rewarding to my heart and soul. I wouldn’t trade him for the entire world.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
Because I don’t have a choice in my mind, it is what he requires. Either I give 200% all the time or his present and his future are bleak. Because his mother and I are divorced, she can’t watch him alone because of his size and his occasional aggressive outbursts despite all the medications. If I don’t continue falling on every sword for this kid, there is no one else that can or will.
How would you use the $25,000?
Because I have primary caretaker duties it’s very difficult for me to earn any sort of a stable income. Stem cell therapy has helped my son quite a bit, and I already have to fundraise constantly for him just to pay for it. I would use part of it to pay for his next round and use the remainder to pay off debt accumulated raising him and if there is any left I would just save for a rainy day to keep being there for him and have a buffer to alleviate some of the constant pressure.
