The most rewarding part of being a dad is realizing how much of my life will be mirrored through my kids. My one-year-old wakes up yelling, “Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!” and my five-year-old runs down the hall to hug me when I pick him up. Those moments remind me that showing up matters. While I’m raising my children, they’re raising the standard of the man I have to become. If my life is going to be mirrored through them, I want to give them something worth reflecting.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I strive to be the best dad I can be because I know what it feels like to be a son searching for his father. I learned from coaches, pastors, and other men what I wished I had learned from my dad. When I became a father, I still had questions, so I made it my mission to learn what great fatherhood looks like. That journey became my life’s work, helping other dads show up too. I can’t change what I missed as a son, but I can make sure my children never question if their dad loved them.
How would you use the $25,000?
First, I’m booking the Disney cruise my wife and I have been talking about for six years! After that, we’d put the money back into our home. We have bathrooms that need work, a kitchen floor that needs tile, and my wife has been wanting more kitchen space. We finally finished our backyard fence, so I’d also get our boys the swing set we’ve wanted for them. For us, $25,000 would mean finally doing some things we’ve kept saying, “one day” about, while creating memories together along the way.
