The most rewarding part is watching them do something I taught them without knowing I am watching. My youngest passed the ball instead of taking the shot last season, and I never said a word about it. He just did it. That is when you realize it actually landed. They are becoming who you have been quietly showing them how to be.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
Because whatever I do becomes their normal. My sons are not learning from what I tell them, they are learning from what I model. If I want them to be present husbands and fathers one day, they have to see it first. I am not just raising two boys. I am setting the standard for the men they will become and the family they will build after me.
How would you use the $25,000?
Most of it would go straight into accounts for my sons that they cannot touch until they are grown, because the best thing I can hand them is a head start I never had. A piece of it goes to the soccer programs I coach in. There are kids on my teams whose families are choosing between registration fees and groceries, and no kid should sit out over $150.
