I think being called dad is the most rewarding. Every day, I wake up to two kids and appreciate every moment I get with them. After almost losing a child to a near death experience, I now look at life a little different. It’s the smallest things that people take for granted that I now make the most rewarding. So, hearing the name Dad is my reward.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
My kids deserve a father who is present, dependable, and willing to fight just as hard for them as they fought for themselves. I will never get everything right, but after almost losing my son, I want my kids to always know that their dad showed up, loved them, and gave them everything he had.
How would you use the $25,000?
I would use the $25,000 to help give my son every opportunity possible as he continues recovering from his AVM and stroke. His recovery didn’t end when we left the hospital. He still needs ongoing therapies, specialized equipment, shoes and other items as his abilities and needs change. There are also many expenses that come with caring for a child who has had to relearn so much that insurance doesn’t always fully cover.
