It's a feeling in my torso. It says “Good job Dad.” It came trick-or-treating, when my son shouted “This is the best night of my life! When chasing a parachuting rocket, their voices bouncing from running and shouting out with glee, for real. When his Teacher said he knows Bible stories he learned from my mouth. While saying good night, we'll recap a fun day, and so we've made a lasting childhood memory. When they pray on their own. It feels like God patting me on the back. It feels like, a win.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
What's more important? I imagine the future: my kids are grown, I'm old, wishing for a time machine back to now. All days of childhood/fatherhood lived exactly once, then become memories. Memories of what? Motivated by sentiment and love, I strive to be the best dad I can be so they feel loved and we remember goodness. And as they become men, they can reference memories of me for how to be good men and strive to be the best dad for their own children.
How would you use the $25,000?
I'd pay off credit card debt. We're a single-income family. We live modestly and we're resourceful, but I'm stuck in interest. Like paddling up beach waves, I try hard for progress, then another wave pushes me back where I started. $25,000 could pull me out of that undertow and free this Super Dad from bondage. Hundreds each month could go toward my family's security and future instead of disappearing into interest and paying for our past over and over again.
