Working in construction made me a builder and a fixer by trade, but being a father brought brand new meaning to those words. The greatest reward of being a dad is building up my son. Whether I am patching up a scraped knee, helping him work through a tough problem, or fixing whatever appliance or piece of decor he broke, we do it together. Seeing his eyes light up when he learns something new or feels loved is the greatest reward in the world.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I want my son to have the childhood I never had. I had a tough upbringing, my father wasn't around because of the divorce and my mother struggled. Don't get me wrong, they did their best, but I can't change the weight that put on me. What I can change is making sure my son never carries that weight or knows what it feels like to miss his dad. My son gives me purpose, and being there for him is never a chore. It is the truest happiness I have ever known.
How would you use the $25,000?
I own a small construction business I started with my cousin some years ago. I hope whoever is reading this knows how hard it is to start a small business, and just how easily financial burdens can end your dream. He’s getting bigger and so are his expenses. Between therapist bills, a service dog, and school accommodations, I’m doing everything I can to make ends meet. I want to provide for my kid so I can be his super dad for as long as I possibly can.
