Watching them become their own people. Seeing my kids' kindness, confidence, humor and hearts develop ranks at the very top. I, of course, love the big moments... but it's the little ones that I truly treasure the most. Bedtime conversations, workouts together as a family - just knowing I get a front row seat to their childhood, and doing everything I can not to screw it up, is the greatest joy and privilege of my life.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I sincerely believe that trying is the part that matters the most. I lose my patience sometimes, get distracted, and have many days in which I know I could have done better. But being their dad is the MOST important thing I will ever do, so I will keep striving for that every day. I want my kids to grow up knowing that no matter what happens, I was and will always be there and in their corner. I want them to know how proud of them I am - not for what they accomplish but for who they are.
How would you use the $25,000?
Time together. The most precious thing I can give is time, and it's the thing I value the most in this world. I'd set some aside for each of their futures, but would use it to make memories. My kids are already 10 and 12 (almost 13), and it happened in a blink. I'm still learning that the greatest thing I can give to them are experiences, attention, and time together that they will carry with them forever. They only get 1 childhood, which means I get 1 chance to be the best dad I possibly can.
