Watching the seeds I’ve planted begin to bloom. I became a father at 20, terrified because I’d never had a consistent example of fatherhood myself. Today, that tiny baby I once held in my arms is now 18, graduated with honors, earned an academic scholarship, and wants to dedicate his future to helping young people. Seeing my kids grow into good, capable young men makes every sacrifice, tough conversation, sleepless night and moment of uncertainty worth it.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
Because I know what it feels like to need a dad. I grew up in a fatherless household to a teen mom, and became a dad myself at just 20. Holding my newborn son, I was terrified! I had never seen consistent fatherhood up close. So I thought about everything I wished I had in a dad and decided, I would become that for my son! Not perfectly. Not overnight. But intentionally. I can’t rewrite my childhood, but through fatherhood, I can help write a better story for the next generation after me.
How would you use the $25,000?
I’d use it to keep building the future I’ve worked so hard to create for my family. With my oldest starting college and another son in HS. I’d invest in their education and future opportunities, strengthen our family savings, and create a meaningful experience together. I’d also seek to help other young people in my community, especially those lacking positive male guidance. I want my sons to see that blessings aren’t just something you receive, its something you build upon and share too!
