When I was little, we would be asked " What do you want to be when you grow up?". While most people with astronaut, police officer, doctor.. I would tell people I wanted to be a dad. Maybe I didn't understand what that really entailed at the age of 6 but it was always my greatest goal. And now it's my greatest achievement. Just seeing them learn, love and thrive is the greatest reward. I've never known a joy greater than seeing your kids succeed and smile back at you with a silent "thanks, dad"
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I made a silent promise to each one of my kids when they were born. That I would always put their needs first, that they will always know that they are loved and that they will never have to face hardships without me in their corner. Now I couldn't promise they would never have hardships or feel pain and loss but I knew I can always promise to be present, understanding and honest. I don't care so much about what I'll "sacrifice" for their happiness. Nothing matters more to me than their smiles.
How would you use the $25,000?
To be frank, I'd pay down our debt, buy a used van to fit our 5 kids in 1 vehicle and I'd buy my wife a ticket to the Philippines to meet her biological father for the first time before it's too late... Honestly, if I can do all that, I can relax a little and focus on building a savings for the kids' college funds and eventually a first home. I don't need anything for myself. I've lived the first 24 years of my life for myself. I'll be dedicating the rest to my family. That will make me happy.
