Watching them become who God's shaping them into, not who I want them to be. Since my leukemia diagnosis, I don't assume I've got unlimited time with them. So when they're in front of me, they actually have me, not my phone, and not "in a minute." We go to the dojo together, ride bikes, play pickle ball. The real reward is pointing two boys toward Jesus while they're still watching how I live.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
God gave me these two boys to raise, and how I father them is incredibly important to me. I don't get to assume I have decades to figure it out. That urgency pushes me to not waste days. Mostly though, they're watching how I actually live, not just what I say about Jesus. I want the two to match.
How would you use the $25,000?
Some would go to Children's Miracle Network programs at Asante in Medford, OR, where our son spent the first six weeks of his life. Some would go to the struggling student sponsorship at Martial Arts of Medford where my boys and I train, to help families who can't afford regular tuition. I would also like to build a baseball batting/pitching cage in our backyard so we could have fun together and I could help my boys with their skills. Maybe even covered if there's enough funds to do that.
