The first time a kid who did not have to love you decides to call you Dad. That one wrecks me every single time. Five of my six are adopted, so I know what it is like to earn that word instead of just getting it for free. The reward is not the big stuff. It is the dumb stuff. Bad jokes at dinner. A little hand grabbing yours in a parking lot. Watching a kid who used to flinch learn that this house is safe. I get to be the thing I always wanted to be. Their guy. Every day. That's the whole prize.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
Because too many kids grow up wondering where their dad is and I decided that won't be me. My whole life purpose is simple. Be a father to the fatherless. My six know I'm not going anywhere, no matter how loud, messy, or hard life gets. But it's bigger than my house. That's why I started DadSkool.org. There are good men out there who never got shown how to do this, but they're trying anyway. I want to help them create the playbook that no one hands you. When dads get strong, families get strong.
How would you use the $25,000?
Honest answer, in two halves. The first half goes to my family. It has been a hard year on us financially, and my wife has carried so much of it without ever asking for a thing. I would take her and our six kids somewhere we could just unplug and be together, all eight just making memories. She has earned that a hundred times over. The second half would go into DadSkool.org, the nonprofit I started so no dad walks alone. That means more free monthly activities for fathers who need our Wolfpack.
