The most rewarding part of being a dad is being a guide, partner, and observer of seven amazing young people as they learn who they are and build themselves into who they want to be. So great to see my kids make mistakes and experience setbacks and heartbreaks, but keep moving forward, learning from the hard times. It's seeing how much character these wonderful blessings have developed - and realizing that I've been able to be successful as a dad. Plus, being loved by these guys rocks.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
First off, because it's my most important calling in life. We've been blessed with seven children of God and it's a sacred duty to to my best. But that's not all. I didn't grow up with anything even approaching parents. The cult I was born into and escaped from at age 17 thought family was obsolete. But from a very early age, I decided that was wrong. So I want to give my kids what I never had, in the best way possible, in tight partnership with my amazing wife. Never giving up!
How would you use the $25,000?
The number of home projects I'm staring at is overwhelming, and this money (after taxes, sigh) would be a great boost. Except we also have a 20-year-old 12-passenger van that could die at any moment, so we need to replace that first. Except! My family deserves some fun, so we would go do something that everyone would love, probably a trip to cool caves or something, then we would see what money we have left that we could spend responsibly on cars/house stuff.
