I love taking the time to show my daughter the coolness of the world, joining her in the curiosity of exploring new places, things to build, and how to love unconditionally. I enjoy seeing her hang on these lessons and, even if she doesn’t seem to get them in the moment, later bring them up and make them her own. Watching her learn and grow into her own person, someone who I hope learns to dare to dream, how to pick herself up when she falls, and that her worth is high no matter what.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
My dad died when I was young, but in our short time together he taught me some lessons that have stood through time. Things like, you are loved even when you make mistakes; if you are going to do a job, do it well because it’s a reflection of you; never give up; and (more learned through living with his death in my memory) the gift we can really leave the world is how we model being good people to our children. My daughter is my/our legacy, not for my sake but for hers and everyone she impacts.
How would you use the $25,000?
You know, there’s the literal dad stuff like prioritizing the new roof we’ll need in a year or so and investing in my daughter’s future. However, I think it would also be cool to take some of that money and have my daughter help me buy holiday presents and hobby supplies (e.g., rocketry kits) for kids in our area who otherwise wouldn’t have access. She loves giving and that way she could give some of the joy she gets from doing hobbies with me to others. Facilitate paying it forward.
