Being there everyday to witness all the milestones and watching their growth and development. Seeing them turn challenges and failures into success and progress. Being able to provide them the love, advice and support that helped me when I was growing up and how they alter and adapt to make it work for them in their own way. Giving them every opportunity in athletics and academics to thrive and build friendships and become a good teammate while finding their own path and passion in life.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
My motivation is to provide the love and caring environment that my dad did. What might not have always been an easy childhood, it was nothing short of love, care and support. With my diagnosis of YOPD it has given me even more motivation to not take everyday for granted and use every opportunity to make memories or even just spend quality time together in the moment. I feel like life can get in a rush and you can get caught up in the day to day and forget about the moment. Embracing the moment.
How would you use the $25,000?
That money would provide much-needed financial relief for my family. Since leaving my career to be more present for my four kids, our income has been cut nearly in half. While I wouldn’t change being there for them, the financial strain has made it difficult to keep up with bills and avoid more debt. This would give us breathing room, and maybe even let me give my kids the backyard play structure they’ve been asking for.
