Watching my kids become the people they are is the greatest reward. My son has grown into a hardworking young man beginning his career, while my daughter is driven, caring, confident, and very much her own person. What means even more is hearing others compliment their character. I have often been told, “Tell your parents they did a great job.” Knowing others see the same qualities in them that make me so proud tells me I must have done something right along the way.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I grew up in a loving home, but we did not have much. That shaped the father I wanted to become. I want my kids to look back and remember a childhood full of experiences, laughter, adventure, and a dad who showed up. After 25 years in law enforcement, balancing the job and fatherhood has not always been easy, but I have never wanted my career to become an excuse for missing their lives. I strive to be the example they can trust, learn from, and always come home to.
How would you use the $25,000?
I would use the $25,000 to create something lasting for both of my kids. I would invest part of it toward my son's future as he starts his career and learns to build financial security and set aside part for my daughter's future and education. I would also use some of it for a family experience we would never forget. That balance reflects how I try to parent: prepare them for tomorrow but never forget to make memories with them today.
