The most rewarding part of being a dad is watching my children grow up and become their own person. I love seeing them discover what inspires them whether it’s sports, crafts, or hobby. I enjoy laughing with my kids, sharing adventures, and finding ways to create joy and surprise in their lives. Watching them become who they are meant to be is pretty amazing. I feel honored as a non-traditional dad whether that is to my step children, my nieces or nephews, or the kids that ask to call me dad.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
My work at the Y has unfortunately shown me what can happen when a dad is absent from a child’s life. It reminds me every day how important it is to show up, listen, laugh, guide, and love. I strive to be the best dad I can because every kid deserves someone in their corner. Everyone needs a dad or someone willing to step up and fill that role I feel blessed to have been given this opportunity for some many kids in my life.
How would you use the $25,000?
I’d use the $25,000 to finish building out my home shop a place where I can create the things that make being a dad fun. From Pinewood Derby cars and treehouses to desks, beds, toys, and whatever crazy project my kids dream up next, it would be a space to build more than projects it would help build memories that will last not just my life time but my kids.
