Teaching. I love showing them things that took me my whole life to learn the importance of. For me, it’s an appreciation of music and a love of the outdoors. We’ve taken music classes, gone to concerts, picked mushrooms, dug for clams, fished, learned from animal tracks (and my daughter’s favorite, animal poop), tended a garden, and learned about species of birds that visit our backyard. Even though I share with and teach them I get to see them appreciate and apply what excites them most.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
Because I want to help my kids find something they love and are passionate about. Life will always be filled with school, jobs, and responsibilities, but if you have something you love to do, it will always carry you through any difficult period of your life. As a dad I want to be a constant source of inspiration and a steadfast presence in good times and bad. I strive to be the best dad so they can count on me to learn and try new things, be supported to take chances, and help them forge a path
How would you use the $25,000?
I would use this money for experiences. I’d use it to take us on trips to see places like Yellowstone, glacier, Moab, Yosemite, and Alaska (all mostly driving distance from WA). This money would help get/build a vehicle we can drive and sleep in and see the northwest without worrying as much about hotels and incidentals. I want them to have experiences at an age decades before I ever did. We live amongst such a tremendous natural world. I want them to see it first hand and make lasting memories
