The fact that I get to see my son grow up after I was told it would never happen. My time as a caregiver/father has been an investment and the time alone is the reward. Every day, every hour, and every minute is time I was never suppose to have so time with my son alone is a gift. Fatherhood for me has been a complete sacrifice of most things people value the most. Freedom, financial stability, romance, sleep, comfort, literally everything. But I'm grateful to give it up to be a dad while I can.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I lost a daughter the year before my son was born. I understand that being a father is not a given and I know the grief of losing a child. Even though my son has extremely significant brain damage I still have my shot to be a dad and I always planned on being the best one I could be. My version of fatherhood look completely different than a lot of other fathers but my sons injury makes me no less of a father and makes him no less than my son. I want my son to feel how much I love him.
How would you use the $25,000?
I am desperately trying to raise $77,000 for a wheelchair accessible van to get my son around easier so we can actually go out and enjoy life. Every penny would go toward my fundraiser to get us closer to our goal.
