Whenever I see my son choosing to be a kind person and accomplishing life’s milestones, it’s the most rewarding part of being a dad for me. I love to see him overcome his fears and experience things for the first time. A core memory for me is when he took it upon himself to have a hard conversation and wrote a letter and apologized to his classmate when he unintentionally laughed at them and hurt their feelings. He consistently will invite and play with all kids to make sure they feel included.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
Growing up, I couldn’t be with my dad as much as I wanted due to certain circumstances, seeing him only a few times a year. I'd often feel alone and sad because of this, but he was still a great father, example, and we shared some great memories together. I made a promise to myself to always be present for my kids no matter what and be involved as much as I can. From coaching, volunteering at school, taking on his food allergies, playing with him, cracking jokes, being silly...I’m there.
How would you use the $25,000?
I would only use this to get caught up with my son’s medical treatments for food allergies and then use it for future payments for the same treatment. He has 43 food allergies, allergic to all top allergens, so food is very limited for him. It would help fully pay for his program for the next 5 years at least and help my family with travel costs for his treatment as we live in Utah and the program is in California. That’s all I would use it for so that way my son can attain food freedom.
