When my girls tell me they love me, when I see them make good choices, when I see their little personalities starting to bud, it feels magical. I know that my consistency for them through hard times has been their rock, and that no matter what they know I am there for them, to listen and be in their corner. When I see them flourishing as themselves I am so proud and it fills my battery to full bars. Knowing how much they love and need me helps me make healthier choices for myself too.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I am from a generation where some parents were emotionally distant and favored conformity and "keeping the piece" over open-mindedness and facing things head on. I want to break that cycle for my children and grow together, with them. I want them to know a world where it is okay to default to kindness, to listen and think before responding, and to have healthy boundaries with unhealthy things. I am "onboarding" them into life and want them to have successful careers. ;)
How would you use the $25,000?
There are some lingering debts I would pay off for sure, but I also really want to take my girls to Disneyland. They are obsessed with all things Disney and it would blow their little minds to visit a Disney park. Any remainder would be put away for their/our future.
