Hearing my son laugh. Seeing him discover something new. Watching his imagination run wild and knowing that, despite everything we've lost, there's still joy in his world. Some days his smile is the only thing that gets me through. He probably doesn't realize how often he's the one keeping me going.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
Because I'm all he has. He already lost one parent, and I can't replace his mother. I wouldn't even try. But I can make sure he grows up knowing that he is loved, supported, and never alone. I want him to remember more than the sadness we've endured. I want him to remember the laughter, the adventures, the ridiculous things we created together, and a father who kept trying, even when life made it incredibly difficult.
How would you use the $25,000?
I'd buy us something we haven't had in a long time: breathing room. I'd catch up on rent and bills, take some of the financial pressure off our shoulders, and give my son experiences and memories we've had to go without. Maybe even spoil him a little. He's earned it. Most importantly, I'd use it to build some stability for our future. After years of cancer, caregiving, and grief, being able to look ahead with hope instead of constant financial worry would be life-changing.
