Watching my sons learn, grow, and love. From their first steps to learning the right way to pronounce words (although I miss the cute attempts), from trusting grins to flashes of inspiration as they make a new connection, every moment of growth encourages me that I’m on the right track. Most of all, it’s when my older son unexpectedly says, “Daddy, I love you,” as he snuggles under my arm watching Saturday morning cartoons.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
My kids deserve a good example. There are billions of people out there, and lots of men who will come into their lives. They need a good role model. My dad worked hard to be that for me, and though he wasn’t always the best in all areas, it helped me to see what I wanted in a dad, and what I want for my kids: an encourager, a trusted ear, an advisor, a loving accountability partner, a man willing to work hard with his hands, mind, heart, and soul to make the world a better place.
How would you use the $25,000?
First, I’d use some to pay down debt and the rest toward a down payment on a home. We’ve never owned one, and $25,000 could bring us closer to giving our boys a place to call home. I’d take my wife on a well-earned retreat and spend meaningful time with our boys. I built their first toy box and desk, and I’d love to build their bunk beds too. I’d also use the opportunity to serve our community together.
