Watching her discover the world for the first time. A dog, an airplane, a puddle, even a cardboard box can be the greatest thing she has ever seen. At 15 months old, she has no idea that while I am teaching her about the world, she is teaching me how to appreciate it again. I get to watch a little person become herself, and somehow I get the privilege of being her dad through all of it.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
Because one day she will decide what love, strength, respect and character look like, and some of her earliest examples will come from me. I want the way I love her and her mom to quietly set that standard. I will not always get it right, but I will always show up. If she grows into a strong, kind woman who knows her worth and never questions how deeply her dad loves her, I will have done something right.
How would you use the $25,000?
I would buy back time. I would put most of it toward our home and our daughter's future, but I would save a piece for experiences we can have together as a family. Money gets spent. Kids grow up. I would want this prize to give us more afternoons together, more firsts, more ridiculous pictures and more stories we will still be telling when she is grown. At 15 months old, I am already realizing just how fast this goes.
