Watching my boys become their own people and getting a front-row seat for it. I love teaching them things, but even more when they surprise me. I once told my youngest I’d never let him win at chess: beat Dad for real and I’d buy him a video game. Three months later, the little punk got me. I’ve never been happier to lose. Being their dad means getting to teach, laugh, listen, embarrass them occasionally, and watch two incredible kids slowly become incredible men.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I grew up in a loud, chaotic home, so I learned early what kind of dad I wanted to be. I wanted my boys to know that Dad, and home, would always be a safe place to land. No walking on eggshells. They can talk to me, fail, change their minds, chase some crazy new dream, or just need me, and I’ll be there. I don’t need to choose who they become. My job is to love them, guide them, and help them discover it for themselves. If I give them that, I’ve done something right.
How would you use the $25,000?
I’d go full Dad mode. My oldest is reaching driving age, so I’d finally replace my car and pass mine down to him. He gets his first car, Dad gets an upgrade, and everybody wins, until I see what adding a teenage driver does to my insurance. 😂 Whatever’s left goes toward something my boys will remember: a family trip, an adventure, and more time together. They’re growing up way too fast, and that’s one thing $25,000 can’t slow down.
