Watching two amazing boys who don’t owe me anything let me be part of their lives. Every bit of trust they’ve given me feels earned, not automatic. The most rewarding part is the ordinary stuff: being the one they run to show a good grade, the one who gets asked to kick the soccer ball around, and the one who gets to teach them how to say “I farted” in Portuguese ha-ha. Being a bonus dad and still being chosen every single day never gets old. I love watching them grow into themselves.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I strive to be the best dad I can be because these boys deserve someone who shows up fully for them. I married a strong, beautiful woman raising two incredible boys, and I don’t take lightly what it means to be trusted with a role in their lives. They’re watching how I treat their mom, how I handle hard days, and how I keep my word, and I want what they see to be worth becoming. There’s real joy in catching them mirror it back: holding the door for her, taking her hand on the stairs, etc.
How would you use the $25,000?
I’d split it between building memories and building something lasting. A real family trip we wouldn’t otherwise be able to swing, plus setting some aside for the boys’ future (savings toward school or whatever they end up chasing), and the rest put toward our home, the place all this actually happens.
