The most rewarding part is watching four different little people become themselves. Occasionally I get see small ways they are also becoming like me. They repeat something I often say, attack a problem the way I would, or come find to show me something they’re excited about. My days can be crazy are exhausting. But I know I will miss this version of my family, even while I’m enjoying every minute of it.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I want my children to go through life never questioning whether their dad loves them. I want that to be one of the surest things they know. I never want them to feel like they have to make excuses for me, explain away my absence, or defend the way I earn a living. That’s why I quit the car business for law school. When they grow up I want them to enjoy talking about their childhood. I want them to say their dad was there and and was someone they were proud to call Dad.
How would you use the $25,000?
We are a family of six trying to put down roots on Long Island. Realistically, the house we can afford will be a huge project. I would use the $25,000 for home renovations. I left my tools in Oregon when we left for law school, and some jobs are too big to for me to fake it til I make it. The goal is a safe and fun home with enough usable space for four growing kids. A place they can play and grow up in. And always come back to.
