The little moments when I get to see the kind of people my kids are becoming. Watching something I’ve tried to teach suddenly show up in the way they work, treat someone, solve a problem, or care for each other is a reward like no other. Years of consistent discipline, starting to take shape in the form of habits and behaviors that reassure me it is all worth the enormous effort.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
I genuinely believe raising my five kids is the most important work I’ll ever do. They’re watching how I love their mom, how I treat people, how I work, how I handle failure, and how I get back up when life knocks us down. I want them to grow up knowing their dad showed up, loved them fiercely, and did everything he could to give them a strong foundation for their own lives.
How would you use the $25,000?
I’d put most of it toward a down payment on the home my family has been renting for the past few years, allowing us to plant some deeper roots in the community where we’ve been living and serving. But I would set some aside to thank the two dads who helped build me into the dad I am—my dad and my father-in-law. I’m thinking a trip to Ace Hardware for some new Milwaukee tools, and a package of Omaha Steaks.
