I've been a dad for ~10 years and loved it. But, this past year I watched my boys turn into courageous young men. I told them SNAP was getting cut and kids might go hungry. Their response? "Let's go buy food, dad." Those 5 words changed our world. We ran a food pantry in our front yard, they got to become friends with a Pittsburgh Steeler, they were recognized as Heroes of 2025 by GMA and so much more. Not a word was mentioned at school. That was just normal to them. What more could you ask?!
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
They are growing into who they're going to become right now, and I only get one shot at that. They've got a sister and a baby brother at their mom's house and we don't say "step" or "half" around here. I babysit the baby and I pick their sister up for school. My boys have never once thought that was strange. If they walk out of our house knowing that everyone in their life gets taken care of, then I did my job. Knowing that they come to me without hesitation is what any dad wants for their kids.
How would you use the $25,000?
I would love to take my boys on a trip. They've spent a year giving away food, loading trucks, and filling backpacks without ever asking for anything in return. Giving them the trip of a lifetime would be the perfect gift. After that, a second bathroom. Three boys, one toilet, and a house that spent the past year housing food, diapers, school supplies and more. They made a lot of room for other people's need . I'd like to make a little room for them.
