To love and be loved. Watching my kids experience life—the tastes, smells, trips, hard days, friendships, and firsts. Seeing my oldest light up when she “piloted” a plane, my middle child catch her first fish, or my toddler scream “DAA!” when I walk in. Bringing home a hotel key, a pack of cookies, or a flower from a trip and watching them react like I handed them a bar of gold. Getting to experience life again through their eyes is one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever known.
Why do you strive to be the best dad you can be?
My father did more harm than good. Ever since I was a kid, I dreamed of being a dad—to love the way I wanted to be loved, and to care for, protect, and cherish the children I’ve been given. I’ve been fortunate to learn from some great fathers along the way. Knowing what it’s like to grow up fatherless, or worse, I hope the mark I leave on this world is through my kids and the love I give them. I can redo almost anything else in the world. But I only get to be a dad once.
How would you use the $25,000?
I would do a few things. Id build my kids the best treehouse they have ever seen. Id add some into investment accounts for them and lastly on 7/17, while I was on a work trip my wife and all 3 girls got in an accident in our van and it was totaled. My wife and 3 girls all walked away with no injuries. I would buy another van, nearly identical to the Honda we had as it kept my family safe and unharmed.
